Black Chickpea Lentil and Pumpkin Curry

Black Chickpea Lentil and Pumpkin Curry is a smart side that is a perfect complement to a sharp and saucy vegetable and lentil dish.

Top it with a simple tadka of fried whole red chilies and white cumin, and serve it with a salad, and roti or chapati.

Ingredients

Cooking Oil β†’ 1/2 Cup

Garlic β†’ 8 to 10 Cloves

Salt β†’ 1 Tsp

Turmeric Powder β†’ 1 Tsp

Red chili powder β†’ 1 Tbsp

Dry Coriander Powder β†’ 1 Tbsp

Black Chick Pea Lentil with Pumpkin Curry Recipe

Yogurt β†’ 1 Cup

Black Chickpea Lentil β†’ 500 gm (Washed and soaked)

Pumpkin β†’ 1 Kg (Peel and cut into small pieces)

Water β†’ 500ml

Temper

Cooking Oil β†’ 2 Tbsp

Whole Red Chili β†’ 6 to 8

White Cumin β†’ 1 Tbsp

Recipe

Put onion, tomatoes, garlic, all dry spices and 1 cup of water and yogurt in pressure cooker and bend the lid and give pressure for 8 minutes after whistle on medium to low heat.

Putt off the flame and release the pressure carefully. All things have softened. Now mash all things carefully and add chili flakes and cooking oil and SautΓ©ing/stir-frying (called bhunai).

When oil leaves the edges add lentil and Pumpkin and stir fry for 5 minutes. Now add 1 cup of water so that it cooks and remains soft and juicy, but not too much to make it watery or soggy.

Now bend the lid again and give it pressure for 5 minutes after whistle.

Release the pressure and toward the end, the water content will have naturally dried up. lentil must maintain shape, but also break easily when pressed between your fingers.

Dish out cooked lentil and pumpkin.

Tempering

Put cooking oil in a pan and add white cumin seeds and whole red chili and fry. Put this temper over cooked lentil.

Serving

Serve it with naan, Chapati or roti with green chatni and salad.
