Lentils And Rice Platter
My extreme comfort food – this is a dish we grew up on. Lentils And Rice Platter is also called Dal Chawal Platter and is a delicious meal with yummy yogurt sauce, pickle and salad. Must Try it.
Ingredient
Lentil
Red or Orange lentil → ½ Cup (Soak ½ Hr)
Split Chickpea Lentils → 2 Cups (Soak 1 Hr)
Water → 6 Glass
Salt → 1 Tsp
Red Chili Powder → 1 Tbsp
Turmeric powder → 1 Tbsp
Green Coriander → ½ cup
Temper (Tarka)
Crushed Garlic → 2 Tbsp
Green Chili → 5 to 6 (Cut into slices)
Oil → 1/3 Cup
Ghee/Butter → 2 Tbsp
Salad
Cucumber → 1 Large (Cut into small cubes)
Tomato → 1 Large (Cut into small cubes)
Onion → 1 Large (Cut into small cubes)
Lemon Juice → 2 Tbsp
Green Sauce (Chatni)
Crushed Coconut → 2 Tbsp
Green Chili → 5 (Cut into pieces)
Green Coriander → ½ Cup
Mint → 1/3 Cup
Garlic Cloves → 3
Yogurt → 1 Cup
Salt → 1 Tsp
Pickle
Ready Mixed Pickled → 2 Tbsp
Rice
Rice → 500gm
Water → 3 Ltr
Salt → 1 Tbsp
Recipe
Lentil
Put both lentils in pressure cooker and add water, salt, turmeric, and red chili and keep it on medium to low flame and bend the lid and give pressure for 10 minutes.
Putt off the flame and release the pressure carefully. Now you will see both lentils are cooked. Check split Chickpea Lentil by pressing it with a finger, It will also be soft.
Add green coriander leaves and mix with lentils.
Temper 1
Put cooking oil and 1 Tbsp ghee or butter in a pan and keep it on medium to high flame. Now add crushed garlic and when garlic turn golden brown then add green chili and fry for 1 minutes. Now immediately add temper to lentils.
Temper 2
Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan and add whole red chili to it. Just fry for 1 minute then immediately pour temper to Lentils. (Must watch video for clarity).
Salad
Add all vegetables in a bowl and add lemon juice and mix it. Salad is ready. Keep it aside.
Green sauce (Chatni)
Add coconut, garlic, mint, coriander, salt and 2 tbsp yogurt and beat it well. Put into a bowl and add remainder yogurt and mix it with hand whisker. The sauce is ready. Keep it aside.
Rice
Add water in a big wok and add vinegar and salt and keep it on medium to high flame. Bring it to boil then add washed and soaked rice and stir a few times to make sure the rice and water are mixed. Cover with lid for 5 minutes.
Let the water come to a rolling boil, then reduce the heat until it maintains a gentle bubbling simmer.
It's ready when tender and no longer crunchy, but still a touch too firm for your liking.
Set the strainer over your sink or a large bowl and strain the rice and cooking liquid.
Immediately after straining, while the rice is still hot and steamy, transfer the rice back to the pot and cover with the lid. Let stand off the heat, for 10 to 15 minutes.
Uncover the rice, fluff with a fork, and serve.
Platter
Now set a platter of lentil rice (dal chawal) with mint green sauce, pickle and salad.
